CCAP Zambia Community Schools - February 2024
CCAP Zambia Community Schools
Challenges start early for children in Zambia. Drinking the water may give you cholera and other diseases. Hanging out on the streets leads to trouble and abuse. Education can be a way out, but the government schools are overcrowded, and the private ones are beyond what they can ever afford.
There is a ray of hope. Thirty-six Community Schools run by The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Zambia offer a free education to all children. Congregations connected with each school provide the teaching staff — some of whom serve without pay. In addition to a comprehensive curriculum, CCAP Schools share the Gospel with all students.
Superintendent Mabuchi Ndhlovu writes, “Human rights compel us to make sure no child is left behind in education. Since government schools have few spaces, these children would be out on the streets if they could not attend our CCAP schools. Best of all we are sharing the Good News about Jesus with them.”
There are many ways churches can partner with the Community Schools in their vital mission to raise up the next generation in Zambia. One example is the Woodside Church in Yardley, Pennsylvania. A leaky roof at the Mandevu School in Lusaka compromised the walls, warped the desks, and filled the concrete floors with potholes. The whole building almost collapsed. On learning of this, the disciples at Woodside raised funds for our Zambian partners to replace the roof, paint the walls, and resurface the floors. Woodside Preschool children donated funds from their annual Walk-a-Thon to help their fellow students in Zambia. When the Mandevu School faced an outbreak of waterborne cholera, Woodside hosted a Walk for Water to install a pump and tank for the school’s borehole. General Secretary of the Synod Zambia the Rev. Sevatt Kabaghe writes, “We are expecting a high number of students at Mandevu as the school looks good and we anticipate a good response from the community. Desks are a priority now. Thank you for your support and the continued assistance to the community schools as well as the children. It is my prayer that this will go a long way.”
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Outreach Foundation is seeking gifts to support the CCAP Community Schools. Through the Outreach Foundation, your church can link arms with CCAP Community Schools by:
1. Purchasing 50 new desks
2. Providing books and supplies
3. Supplying a Special Needs School with wheelchairs and equipment
4. Assisting with renovation or construction of classrooms
Let’s clear the obstacles so the children of Zambia can have hope and a future. All gifts of any size are welcomed to assist with scholarships and general operations. Make a gift HERE or by sending a check to our office.
