Iraq Partnership, Church in Erbil Update February 2025
The church in Erbil now has a new home. This encouraging news from our partners in Iraq lifts our hearts with joy. We are grateful for our partner’s journey of faith, resilience, and growth and your faithful support of their ministry.
The church in Erbil has been experiencing growth and needed to relocate to a bigger space. In September 2024, through God’s provision and the generous support of partners like you, they moved into a new building located on a main road of Enkawa –one of the most significant areas of Erbil. The space was good, but it needed some work. On October 10th, the church celebrated the official opening of the new church home with a special gathering of Iraqi Presbyterian churches. This wasn’t just a physical relocation – it marked a new season of growth and transformation for the community. Since moving, the church has seen incredible blessings. More people are attending services, and the Sunday School programs have grown, bringing in more children.
The stability of having their own space has allowed the community to dream again – dreams that once seemed very distant. The church has been able to expand its ministries to launch a women’s ministry, weekly prayer gatherings, English-speaking church services, and Sunday School for internationals, as well as a free physiotherapy clinic run by a Brazilian missionary.
The expansion does not stop there. The church plans to establish an Iraqi Theological Seminary and a community library.
As we know, with great opportunities come great challenges. Moving into this new building required significant renovations – transforming the basement for Sunday School, adding new toilets, purchasing furniture, repainting, installing air conditioning, and even securing two electrical generators.
Your previous generous contributions have already helped in making this renovation work happen. However, paying rent for the entire year in advance left our partner with a financial debt beyond what they had originally saved.
