New Church Development in Egypt Update September 2024

A Year of Steadfast Faith, Hope, and Diligence

This year has been a powerful witness to God's work through the Pastoral and Outreach Ministries Council of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Egypt (EPCE). Thanks to the generous hearts of those who stand alongside this ministry, lives are transformed, and hope is born.

Church Planting – A Beacon of Hope in New Places

For the past 15 years, EPCE has seen miraculous growth in its church planting efforts. One hundred new churches have been planted, now totaling 450 churches, bringing the light of Christ to different places in the country. Every three years, the council adopts 15 new areas for ministry, and this year, 15 more churches have been planted, each a testimony to God's boundless love. With a deep passion for the Gospel, the ministry now focuses on reaching ethnic groups in Egypt. There is a yearning to touch hearts that have not yet experienced the grace and love of Jesus.

Refugee Ministry – Caring for the Weary

Egypt, a land of refuge for nearly 9 million displaced people, has become a sanctuary for those fleeing unimaginable conflict in places like North Sudan and Palestine. In the midst of overwhelming numbers and urgent needs, the ministry has stepped in to provide support to 15 Sudanese churches and extend a hand of relief to Palestinian refugees in Al-Arish. Every need met, every prayer lifted, brings a moment of relief, a whisper of hope to those who have lost so much. But the financial burden is immense. With limited resources, the challenges are heavy, but so is the diligence to continue this sacred work for making God’s love tangible.

Mission Work – Courageous Hearts in the Field

The mission work has expanded into some of the most challenging regions. Four missionary pastors and their families have been sent by EPCE to South Sudan, pouring their lives into the communities they serve. In Iraq, the ministry’s courage knows no boundaries, with Egyptian pastors stationed in Erbil, Basra, and most recently, Duhok, where Pastor Adel and his family arrived in August. The early stages of this mission in Duhok are full of hope but also financial strain. The council covers every expense—housing, a place for worship, schooling for Pastor Adel’s children, and his monthly salary.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Behind every church planted, every refugee helped, and every missionary sent is a community of friends who believe in the greater story, one that is being written by God and in which we take part. The challenges are many, but so are the opportunities to bring hope, healing, and transformation to those in need. The Outreach Foundation seeks gifts to support the mission and ministry of the New Church Development in Egypt. All gifts of any size are welcome to help the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Egypt plant new churches and revitalize existing ones.
