Palestinian Bible Society - Update

The Palestinian Bible Society’s 8th “Bible Day”

The Bible Day event has become an anticipated annual event bringing unity, joy, and strength to the different denominations in the Holy Land. Though last year’s event was online, due to the pandemic, the event took place this year in one of the most spiritually significant settings in the world, the Nativity Church in Bethlehem – where the birth of Jesus happened and where Jerome translated the Hebrew Bible into Latin, now known as the Vulgate.

As the angels declared the glory of God to the shepherds, that a newborn king had come to redeem the world, also in the same spirit of worship and praise the Bible Day event was launched under the title “Palestine Praises”! The event took place on December 3rd and was attended by over 300 people, while thousands of others watched the program live on Palestine TV, other local TV stations, and different Facebook pages.

At St. Catherine’s Church, the Catholic section of Nativity Church, Christians from different parts of the West Bank made their way to the special celebration. Regardless of their denominations, Palestinian Christians have gotten used to the interconfessional spirit that is reflected in this day, a true sign of unity in Jesus. This unity is also reflected in the representation of different church leaders coming together around the Bible.

PBS leader Nashat Filmon says: “We give praise for our Bible Day; it was successful. We had excellent church representation, the worship team was very good, and the message was powerful. Thank God that He enabled us to have such a gathering during the pandemic. Thank God that the national TV broadcasted the event live in addition to the different local TV stations and social media.”

During this event, the praise team sang songs connected to Bible verses that were read from different Palestinian towns and broadcast on two large screens inside the church. The link between the Bible verse and the song created a beautiful image of worship and spread a much-needed message of encouragement.

At the end of the event, Mr. Filmon thanked all who participated and made this day possible, not forgetting the “amazing PBS team” that worked hard to make this event come to life. Afterward, people received new editions of the Bible and other child-related material.
