Village Health Kits for Mozambique for Christmas

by Berry Long

Most of the villages in rural Tete Province are remote and located a great distance from a hospital, health clinic, or doctor. Transportation is extremely limited on the rough and rocky roads. Walking, bicycles, and ox carts are the chief forms of transportation. Villagers in these rural communities find it very difficult to access basic health care.

Sebber Banda, public health nurse and project manager of the Holistic Evangelism Project in Tete Province, has devised a plan to address this basic need. She has trained Village Health Assistants (VHA) in first aid. They are able to treat minor injuries in the remote villages where doctors and medical treatment are not available. In a sense, they are Tete Province's medical first responders in rural areas.

The VHA are supplied a kit with some medical supplies after their training is complete. Your gift of $120 will provide (or resupply) a Village Health Assistant with a kit to care for their neighbors in these isolated rural areas. This gift in honor of a family member or friend is a living example of our Lord's love expressed in Matthew 25:40:

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

As we celebrate the birth of God’s greatest gift to us, please consider honoring your friends and family with a gift in their name to provide Village Health Kits to VHA in Tete Province. We will send you a Christmas card acknowledgment that you may send to the person you would like to honor and, in the months, ahead, they will receive updates about the project.
