Syria
October 19-November 3, 2021
Led by Associate Director Marilyn Borst
This journey of encouragement will touch base with multiple congregations of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon. In places like Damascus and Homs, we will learn much about the work and witness of the Church whose faithful presence has shone the light of Christ through war and pandemic and the ensuing economic collapse. In Kharaba, near the Jordanian border, it has only been a short time since rebels, who held the church and nearby houses, were expelled, allowing the church to restart its ministries---which are thriving. At Amr Al Hosn, in sight of the Krak de Chevelier (a well-preserved Crusader castle), a long-dreamed-for retreat and conference center, being built by the Synod with help from Outreach, is under construction to provide a place to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” and we will be present for its dedication.
Much time will be spent in worship and fellowship and in learning, from the example of our Presbyterian family in Syria (and in Lebanon, coming and going), how “suffering produces perseverance; perseverance character; and character, hope…”
Participants will need to be flexible, patient, and adaptable as the contingencies of travel have grown exponentially in this post-COVID age, but we will be well-cared for and expertly guided by partners on the ground. ALL TRAVELERS MUST HAVE HAD THE COVID VACCINE, AS REQUIRED BY OUR BOARD. The ground costs are estimated to be around $3100. Airfare to/from Beirut is not included, and each traveler will book their own flights.
You can apply online or print the application and waiver. A non-refundable $150 deposit is required to secure your place.
