The 2014 Tete Province Team Arrives

Our daring team of 11 hardy souls departed for Tete Province, Mozambique on Monday. The 11 of us hail from seven different locations:  four from Rapid City, SD; two from Florida; and one each from Nashville, Birmingham, Florence SC, Fountain Inn SC, and Cordova TN. Meeting up at Dulles became and interesting logistical challenge coming from seven locations.  We had some trouble with flights to Dulles being delayed. Four had to run through the terminal to catch the plane, while one had to divert from Charlotte to Atlanta to catch a different airline to Johannesburg. Thankfully, we all made it to Blantyre, Malawi today to meet up with our hosts, Nedson and Sebber.  Although all of us made it, not so for some of our bags full of supplies, which will catch up to us at some point!  We all felt the power of our home team prayers. This afternoon we will drive 3-4 hours to spend the night near the border of Tete Province. On Thursday we will cross the border and officially begin our Tete adventure.  We will visit wells that have recently been drilled, see schools on which construction has started, and enjoy vibrant worship services at churches both new and old. We will attend an exciting drama performance put on by skilled native actors who deliver a compelling message on disease prevention and health education. We will also have opportunities to discuss church matters with evangelists, elders, and youth leaders. It will be a time of inspiration as we learn from our African brothers and sisters of their powerful faith and witness. We will pray for and with each other.

Speaking of prayer, please pray for our team as we spend the next week with our dear friends and mission partners in Tete.  They have little by our standards, but they truly love the Lord, which for them is enough.  Please ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, protect us and open our eyes and hearts to receive what Our Lord has lovingly prepared for us.

Blessings, Berry Long for the Tete Team
