Bibles for Christmas

by Mark Mueller

A fair number of people around the world (nearly 40%) read portions of the Bible every day. It is one of the most published and printed books in history. It has been printed in just about every known language.

The Bible contains eyewitness accounts of historical events of such magnitude that they have literally shaped the world in which we live. I think it would be fair to say that the Bible has transformed the world, at least a good portion of it.

Strangely, the Bible has been praised, cursed, restricted, banned, desecrated, and fought over many centuries. People swear on it and at it. Even though the Bible contains a life-changing message of freedom found through Jesus Christ, has liberated many, and has raised the dignity and rights of every human being ever born, the Bible is not without resistance from other religions around the world.

It is fair to say that if you now know nothing about God, you will know a great deal about God after reading the Bible. In Paul’s letter to the church at Rome, Paul tells us there are certain things we can know about God from general revelation such as creation, sin, death, morality, etc.

God’s inspired Word was given for many reasons but Paul’s letter to Timothy reveals that the Bible is designed to teach us, rebuke us, correct us, and instruct us in righteousness; it was also given so that we may be complete and equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

Imagine, then, people wanting to read the Word of God but not being able to afford the cost of a Bible. The Outreach Foundation is once again launching an effort to put Bibles in the hands of our global partners so that these Bibles can be distributed. We know of great need in the following locations.

  • Arabic Bibles in Egypt, Iraq, and Iran

  • African Bibles in South Sudan

  • Study Bibles for Pastors in China

In these places, and many more, people are overjoyed to receive the life-changing gift of a Bible.

And as we celebrate the birth of God’s greatest gift to us, please consider honoring your friends and family with a gift in their name to Outreach’s Bibles partnerships. We will send you a Christmas card acknowledgment that you may send to the person you would like to honor and, in the months, ahead, they will receive updates about the project. You can mail a check to The Outreach Foundation, 381 Riverside Drive, Suite 110, Franklin, TN 37064 designated for Bibles - Alternative Christmas Gifts or click here to give online and select the drop-down menu option for Alternative Christmas Gifts - Bibles.
