Mexico Partnership Appeal

The National Presbyterian Church of México (INPM), recently reached out to us regarding the growing crisis in the southern state of Chiapas, which borders Guatemala. Large numbers of immigrants from Central and South America funnel through the mountainous terrain between these two countries. This is also a high-volume transit area for drugs. Two of the most powerful drug cartels in México, the Sinaloa and New Generation Jalisco cartels, have been fighting for control of these lucrative drug and immigrant trafficking trades over the past several years. Extortion of small businesses and farmers, kidnappings, and violent confrontations between the cartels have been increasingly frequent occurrences.

Escalation of this activity over the past few months has led to the displacement of many families, including Presbyterian church members and pastors. Local Presbyterian churches in Chiapas (away from the border area) have set up shelters to give physical and financial assistance to these displaced families. The central executive team of the INPM is helping to coordinate funding of these relief efforts from congregations across México and has requested support from The Outreach Foundation.

Let us join our brothers and sisters in México to bring God’s gift of hope during these difficult days.
