About Our Partner
Our Presbyterian family in Iraq is represented by faithful congregations in Kirkuk, Baghdad, Basrah, Mosul, and Erbil. After the 2003 war, the subsequent insurgency of extremists, and the violent takeover in Mosul and its environs by ISIS, relative stability has returned, allowing two Presbyterian congregations in Mosul and Baghdad, to begin rebuilding their damaged churches. In May 2022, a team from Outreach worshiped in the now-restored sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church in Mosul, facilitated by the partnership of generous donors and the perseverance of our Iraqi family. The Presbyterian Church in Erbil is a new fellowship group meeting in a temporary space and pastored by Rev. Samer Karam from Egypt. In Baghdad, three new elders were recently ordained in the Presbyterian Church in Baghdad.
The Impact
Emergency relief to their communities continues to be extended by the congregations in Iraq, even while they continue in their “regular” ministries. Many of the congregations operate kindergartens (and in the case of Baghdad, the beginning of a primary school) that serve a largely non-Christian constituency with love and integrity and in witness to the Good News.
The opportunity
The Outreach Foundation is seeking gifts to support the mission and ministry of the Iraq Partnership. All gifts of any size are welcomed to assist the Presbyterian Churches of Iraq in their ministries which are not sustainable by the small congregations alone.
