LOVEMORE HOME AND OTHER STREET CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES
ZIMBABWE
It is estimated that more than 5,000 children are living on the streets in Zimbabwe. Due to increasingly harsh economic conditions, this number is expected to reach staggering proportions. Lovemore Home was established in 1998 to provide former street children with a loving, supportive, Christian environment, enabling them to return to regular schooling and to begin the process of rebuilding family relationships. This ministry is operated in partnership with the Children at Risk Committee of the Presbytery of Zimbabwe and Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa.
Twelve boys live at the Lovemore Home. Gifts through the Outreach Foundation help to pay for school fees, uniforms, incidentals, food and self-help ministry with the boys’ families.
In addition to serving the twelve boys living at the Lovemore Home, this program also helps 30 other boys and girls with school fees and uniforms. Of those sponsored through Lovemore home, four students have completed the A level and are now university candidates in business administration, accounting, medicine and general education.
The children at Lovemore Home are taught social and pre-vocational skills. Spiritual growth and academic success are encouraged, while mental and physical health concerns are addressed. Bible studies are also instrumental in the program. The facilities at Lovemore Home need some refurbishments. The ceiling needs repair, and the interior and exterior of the house need painting.
Funds are needed for:
· Food, clothing and education – 12 children at $300 per child per year
· Staffing and administration of the program – $7,500 per year
· Upkeep on Lovemore Home – $3,500 per year
· Other street children programs – $5,400 per year
· Chicken and pig rearing for self-sustainability - $20,000
Minimum goal: $20,000 - Food, clothing, medicine, education and program funds
